Tiffany Baker
CEO/PROJECT COORDINATOR
Born and raised in Michigan, I grew up interested in several hobbies. So go figure when I decided to attend the University of Michigan, I took on various majors. I eventually landed on English, but I didn’t finish my degree, so I guess I’m a Senior for life. I went on to work in a couple different industries including automotive and EEO (Equal Employment Opportunity) Investigations, both fields are high pace— a testament to my drive and ability to work under pressure. I currently serve as a team lead and assistant administrator for an EEO investigative company.
These roles taught me that I am a high-achiever and enjoy the fulfillment of taking on big tasks. Even with the various accomplishments, my multi-dimensional spirit can’t help but think, if I could start my career over, it would be in something more creative, like an interior designer or personal stylist.
I enjoy wearing multiple hats, excelling in each role, but working alongside Marcus and being a part of the mission to bring our clients’ visions to life at DayStar Graphics is invaluable work. I wouldn’t trade it for the world.
Marcus Baker
FOUNDER/CREATIVE DIRECTOR
My story begins in in Flint, Michigan, where I was born and raised. Growing up I had a natural talent for art and design. Drawing and making crafts were my favorite pass-time activities, but in 1990 the game changed, when I was introduced to Photoshop. The program came easy for me, and I started designing magazine covers, posters and experimenting with different fonts and layouts.
It wasn’t long after when I decided to attend GASC Skill Center—a trade school based in Flint. My studies here were pivotal. I was able to bring my intrinsic niche for design and sharpen my skills with industry professionals.
I mastered Graphic Design, Photoshop, Illustrator, QuarkXPress, and many other design tools. Although I grew confident in my design practice, the instructors cautioned that my journey as a Black artist would not be easy, and if I wanted any chance in being successful, I needed a degree.
My pursuit of a career in graphic design, was not easy and when the odds seemed stacked against me, I persevered. And I don’t regret my story one bit because now I work with some of the best clients in the world and bringing their visions to life as the Founder of DayStar Graphics makes it all worth it.
